Meet the team: Ronaldo
What's your role at 93x?
I’m an SEO Executive at 93x.
What does an average day for you look like?
So far, I’ve mainly been working on “discovery work” for our clients, which include SEO audits, keyword research, content ideas and more.
Even when I worked on the same audit over a few days, it did not feel repetitive at all because I would run into new challenges and learn something new each day, which is what I love about this role.
Each website is different, with different problems and objectives, and it’s truly exciting to get to know each of them and come up with recommendations that are unique to them.
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
The technical side of SEO can be challenging at times. I came from a traditional marketing background so a lot of the web development terms are new to me.
Much of the technical knowledge also comes from experience, so you don’t know what you don’t know until you encounter them. However, facing new challenges and learning from them is what I enjoy about the role.
Any advice for those who want to do what you do?
There are so many articles you can find online to help you get started with SEO before you gain any real life experience. There’s a Moz Beginner’s Guide to SEO that I remember in particular, it taught me the basics and gave me the foundation to test things out myself.
This leads to another point, which is to do lots of testing. The things you read online may not always be specific to your situation and it’s hard to know what works until you try it out.
Finally, I’ve asked so many questions throughout my SEO journey. It’s great to be able to ask a real person, but Google and online communities are always there too. You can always find detailed answers online and many of the time, you’ll find something new on the way.
What future design and/or technology developments in the industry are you excited about?
While SEO and UX have always been directly and indirectly interlinked throughout the years, it would be exciting to see what new ways Google comes up with to assess the user experience of a page and introduce even more UX-related ranking factors. The Page Experience Update is here this year, and there will definitely be more to come.
What are your passions/hobbies/interests?
Like everyone else, I love music and films. I used to play drums in a band, and started learning bass guitar during lockdown. As for films, I like most of the stuff I watch but can’t stand anything too action-focused.
I fell asleep at the cinema watching Transformers. When I do get out of the flat, I like to take photos. 2 years ago I got my first point-and-shoot film camera and have been taking it everywhere since.
What’s your favourite thing to read in print/online?
What I read online is usually about music and films, which could go from some random history about The Beatles to a film analysis of Magnolia (1999).
Other than these, Moz helped me a lot getting started with SEO and Search Engine Land kept me up to date with SEO trends and news.
What music is currently trending on your playlist?
For the past few years, I’ve not stopped listening to Radiohead and The Killers. I’ve only recently discovered Pixies’ “Doolittle” and Suede’s “Coming Up”, which are both amazing. Wolf Alice has just released their third album “Blue Weekend”, I’ve listened to the whole thing a few times and like it a lot.
Tell us a random fact about you…
I’m the only one in my family that was born in Portugal, and also the only one in my family that doesn’t speak Portuguese.
